Prevent Programme Prevent Programme The City Mayor of Leicester and the Home Office agreed that Leicester’s Prevent work would be led by St Philip’s Centre working in partnership with agencies and groups including the Federation of Muslim Organisations (FMO). The post of Prevent Coordinator is located here. The St Philip’s Centre approach to Prevent is to empower local communities to develop resilience to extremism and to have the strength to challenge all forms of extremism when it does arise. The council and the police – as with other statutory organisations – will continue to work together in partnership with the Prevent Coordinator, to deliver Prevent in Leicester Shire & Rutland. St Philip’s was chosen to lead this work because of its excellent local, regional and national reputation, particularly around integration and building good inter-faith relations. The Centre already has a successful track record of delivery on Prevent, for example the pioneering Understanding Prevent Level 2 courses, mentoring in secure training centres, membership of the Independent Advisory Group (IAG) and making significant contributions to Prevent from local to national level. The ongoing proliferation of different forms of extremism is one of the most difficult issues that communities, cities and the country have to face. But the Centre believes it is better to seek to bring about positive changes by being part of the discussion and by working together on these issues than by staying outside of them. Will Baldet is the Prevent Co-ordinator in Leicester and based in the Centre. He is assisted by Sean Arbuthnot. You can contact Will and Sean here.
