Now open for applications:    The Richard Bonney Literary Fund

The Richard Bonney Literary Fund provides small grants for researchers in the fields of racial and/or religious harmony in multi-faith and multicultural societies – subjects which were of great importance to the late Emeritus Professor Richard Bonney of the University of Leicester.

The objective of the Fund is to facilitate and promote research and to disseminate knowledge in this area for the public benefit.

It is open to applications from early-career researchers both here in Britain and also from all parts of the world, wherever work in these cross-disciplinary fields is being carried out.

The Fund will normally make one grant annually, of no more than £500, depending on the number and quality of applications. The grants are intended to help with the costs of publishing, research visits, attending conferences or seminars.

This current round of funding opened on 1 September 2019.  We encourage applications from researchers in one or more of the following areas, although we will consider any applications relevant to the overall purpose of the Fund:

  • Has the rise of religious nationalism and identity politics in many countries fatally undermined community cohesion?
  • Is multiculturalism in crisis?
  • Is the current political discourse a new threat to ethnic and religious minorities?
