On Monday 5th February, Tom and Laura led a day on interfaith engagement for interns who are enrolled on the ‘Church of England Ministry Experience Scheme’ (and also those who are New Wine interns). We were also joined by Mike Kelly, the Diocesan Youth Officer, who has responsibility for the CEMES programme. The day consisted of meeting a local Buddhist monk, Aiden Hall, in order to learn about Buddhism, and a visit to Central Mosque with Parvez Bhatty to learn about Islam; it also gave the interns an opportunity to observe prayers.

The interns asked a lot of good questions, such as “Is Buddhism a religion or a philosophy?” and “Do Muslims and Christians worship the same God?”. There were some interesting debates throughout the day, too, such as “what’s the purpose of meditation”? It was a good day and a thought-provoking one too.
