St Philip’s Centre is committed to working with our partners from the different faith communities to benefit people in need and important causes which are achieved through charitable efforts. We work with the Jewish community each year to mark Mitzvah Day. Projects in the past have included collecting toiletries from supermarkets which were given to charities who work with victims of domestic violence and the homeless. We engage with the Buddhist, Hindu, Jain and Sikh communities for Sewa Day each year. ‘Sewa’ which means ‘selfless service’, is important to these faiths. We have run celebration tea parties for the elderly through day centres and organised a community street clean-up. Our partnership with the Muslim community has been evident through our hosting of inter faith iftars during the Islamic holy month of ramadhan and Christian-Muslim charity dinners. In 2012, we marked HM the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee by hosting a jubilee themed party which coincided with Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas.
