WHY?      Theologically, issues of Christian identity within a multi faith world have always been with us, but since 9/11 and 7/7 we are increasingly aware of the challenges in this field wherever we live.

Leicester is an ideal context for inter faith learning.  It is the most multi faith city outside London with equal numbers of Hindus and Muslims and significant numbers of other faiths.  St Philip’s Centre is being developed as a national and European education centre within this context.

·         How can we learn from other faiths but also be aware of our own distinctiveness?

·         What is an appropriate approach to mission within a multi faith world?

·         How do we account for the evident goodness and piety we see in people of other faiths?

·         What of issues of Truth?  Of Grace?  Of Salvation?

This course seeks to explore these issues and will include visits to places of worship in Leicester and to the Islamic Foundation at Markfield with which we have special links.

Topics to be covered:  Theology, Mission and Dialogue, Education and Chaplaincy, Pastoral and Community Issues, Questions of Spirituality

Resource persons include:  Canon Dr Andrew Wingate, Dr Shanthi Hettiarachchi, Dr Ataullah Siddiqui, Shaykh Ibrahim Mogra, Suleman Nagdi MBE
